Best Drugstore and High End Liquid Lipsticks

Liquid lipsticks step away from traditional lipsticks to give us more long-lasting, typically matte, and transfer-proof lip products. That being said, not all formulas are the same and not all products have each of those qualities. In our post today, we will talk about some of our favorite liquid lipstick formulas from both drugstore and high-end brands. We personally LOVE liquid lipsticks, sometimes even more than regular lipsticks! They aren't always the most comfortable or the most flattering on textured lips, but we will share some of the tips and tricks that help make them apply and look better overall. ☺

From left to right: Gingerbread Man, Lolita, Lolita II, Bow N Arrow, Vampira, Coral Corruption, Rebel Rose, Mulberry Luster, Aria, Sandstorm, Trendsetter
We will start off with the more high-end liquid lipsticks that we love. The first product we really like is the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick. We have tried this product in the shades Muse and Trendsetter. You can't find these shades online at the Sephora website but you can find them in some stores and at the Huda Beauty website as well for $26 CAD.  These liquid lipsticks have a bit of a strange formula. It is liquidy and thin and remains wet for quite some time before drying completely. Despite the strange consistency, it is still very opaque, extremely comfortable to wear, and while it is not completely transferred proof, the product still lasts all day on the lips (8+ hours)! Additionally, the formula doesn't emphasize any texture on the lips and doesn't feel dry or look crusty, despite being a matte product. We definitely recommend you give these liquid lipsticks a try if you haven't already! result for huda beauty liquid matte lipstick muse

The formula for the Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipsticks is another one we really enjoy. These liquid lipsticks retail for $31 CAD on the Sephora website and in stores. We have tried this product in the shades Aria, which is described as a magenta plum, and Patina, which is described as a dusty rose color. The formula for these lipsticks is matte, long-wearing, transfer proof, and extremely pigmented. It is perfect for special occasions and long days because it will last all day without getting cracked or faded (9+ hours). This product is very matte and can look dry, so we definitely recommend exfoliating your lips before application to make it look smoother. Aside from that, these liquid lipsticks apply very evenly and fully opaque in one coat, making them easy to work with. If you're a fan of liquid lipsticks and haven't tried these already, give them a go!

The next product we will talk about is The Sephora Collection Luster Matte Long-Wear Lip Color. We have only tried out one shade from this collection which is Mulberry Luster, a bright magenta color. This product is different than your usual liquid lipsticks and more like an actual liquified lipstick and while the name suggests that this product is matte, the finish of this lipstick is satin. The formula is slightly thick but feels lightweight and doesn't dry down completely either. It will definitely transfer, but has a decent wear time and leaves a bit of a stain so you don't need to worry about touch-ups. It is very opaque and vibrant and applies evenly in one go. It is also comfortable to wear and feels hydrating on the lips. The best way to use this lipstick is to not go in too heavy and with too much product right off the bat. You can also blot it down to remove any excess and improve both the wear time and reduce the issue with product transferring. This is one of the more affordable products mentioned in this post. While it usually retails for $20 CAD on the Sephora website and in store, these lipsticks are currently on sale for $7-$9 CAD, a price you can't go wrong with!

The Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks were some of the first liquid lipsticks we tried out. They have an amazing range of shades that suit all skin tones and some of the best vampy and bold shades as well. We have tried out the shades Lolita, Lolita II, Bow N Arrow, and Vampira. All these shades, aside from Vampira, are completely opaque and even with one coat. Vampira is very opaque but sometimes looks slightly patchy with one coat, so we always go in with a second coat for the best look. While all the shades may not have the same formula (some of the most dark and bold shades can be patchy or not as opaque), for the most part, they are very opaque, comfortable on the lips, extremely long lasting (9+ hours), matte, and transfer proof. The formula on these liquid lipsticks can be a bit drying so it is definitely best to exfoliate and moisturize your lips before using them. This reduces the dry look and the emphasis on texture. You can also apply a gloss on top if you don't want the matte look. These liquid lipsticks retail for $24 CAD at the Sephora website and in stores and we highly recommend them!

We hadn't tried any Too Faced liquid lipsticks until about two weeks ago when we noticed that they released a limited edition Melted Matte Liquified Matte Long Wear Lipstick as a part of their Holiday Kiss Collection in the shade Gingerbread Man. We just had to give it a try, the packaging is absolutely adorable! The color is perfect for the fall season, it's like a deep burnt orange shade with warm reddish undertones that doesn't look too brown or dull. It also smells deliciously of gingerbread cookies but if you're not interested in strong sweet scents, you might not enjoy this product. The smell does not linger however, it eventually fades away after application. In term of the formula, it is not thick or sticky and the color is incredibly opaque; it applies evenly in just one go! It is also very comfortable and lasts all day (9+ hours) on the lips. It doesn't look or feel dry and makes the lips look smooth rather than emphasizing lines. This product retails for $25 CAD on the Sephora website and in stores. We will definitely be trying more shades in their Melted Matte Liquified Matte Long Wear Lipstick range!

The last high-end liquid lipstick that we will talk about today is the Ciaté London Liquid Velvet Moisturizing Matte Liquid Lipstick. This product retails for $22 CAD on the Sephora website and in stores. The shade we picked up is Risqué, which is a bold red-orange color. We LOVE the formula of this liquid lipstick. It doesn't dry completely matte but it is very pigmented, moisturizing, and incredibly comfortable to wear. It won't dry out your lips if you choose to wear it multiple days in a row, making it perfect for everyday use. This lipstick applies smoothly on the lips and doesn't emphasize any lines or make your lips look dry and chapped. However, since it is more moisturizing, there is some transfer when wearing this product and it usually doesn't last through a meal. If you don't plan on eating much while wearing it, then it will last you much longer. This is the liquid lipstick for you if you have more textured lips or need hydrating lip products that can be worn day to day.

The next few liquid lipstick formulas that we will talk about are from more affordable drugstore brands. Our favorite drugstore liquid lipstick at the moment is the Wet 'n' Wild Megalast Liquid Catsuit Matte Lipstick. We have spoken about this product in one of our previous posts (which you can check out here) so we won't go too in-depth about these liquid lipsticks. The shades that we really like are Rebel Rose, Give Me Mocha, and Coral Corruption. The shades in this range are beautiful and the formula is also pretty great and comfortable, but you do have to work with it a little because it can look a little powdery. By exfoliating and moisturizing your lips before applying this product, you can avoid those issues and get the most out of this product. The color is very opaque and lasts well throughout the day unless you plan on having oily foods, in which case you will need to reapply it. To top it all off, these are some of the most affordable liquid lipsticks you can find at the drugstore!
NYX is newer to Canada and can now be found at both Shoppers Drug Mart and the NYX stores. We have tried out two of their liquid lipstick formulas, the first of which is the Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick. We have tested out the shades Sandstorm (a true nude) and Soft Spoken (a mauve nude) in this formula. This product retails for $10 CAD on the NYX Canada website and in stores as well. These lipsticks apply very smoothly, pigmented, and dry down to a very comfortable matte finish that feels moisturizing. There is a bit of transfer with this product but it is pretty long wearing (lasts 7+ hours), for not being a matte product. It also applies evenly and doesn't settle into any lines or emphasize any texture on the lips. If you don't like more matte liquid lipsticks or find that they are too drying, this is the product for you!

The second range of NYX lipsticks that we tried were the Lip Lingerie in the shade Bedtime Flirt. This product can also be found at Shoppers Drug Mart, NYX stores, and on the NYX website for $9 CAD. We mainly love this product for the shade; it is very flattering and a perfect everyday colour. The formula is very lightweight, the liquid lipstick dries completely matte and tends to be very drying, which can make your lips look cracked. You can avoid this issue by exfoliating and be moisturizing your lips beforehand to get a smooth and more comfortable application. In terms of the wear time, this lipstick is long lasting and doesn't transfer unless you plan on eating oily foods, in which case you will have to reapply it. While the formula may not be the best, the colors in this collection are beautiful and may be worth trying out if you're interested in them!
That's all for today's post! We hope you enjoyed reading it and found it helpful. Let us know what your favorite liquid lipsticks are in the comment section below. We would love to try them out!☺ Until next time...
